The Hemp Access and Consumer Safety Act

New Bill Alert: S. 1698

By U.S. Hemp Roundtable

We are thrilled to report the introduction today of S. 1698 The Hemp Access and Consumer Safety Act, which would establish a legal and regulatory pathway for the sale of hemp-derived extract products such as CBD as dietary supplements and food and beverage additives. We especially applaud Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), a longtime and enduring hemp supporter, for drafting this bill which will help stabilize hemp markets, open a promising economic opportunity for U.S. farmers, and protect consumers by requiring hemp extract product manufacturers to comply with the entire existing comprehensive regulatory framework for ingestible products. We are also grateful to Senators Rand Paul and Jeff Merkley for serving as original co-sponsors of this much needed, bi-partisan legislation.

Of course, we have a lot of work to do to see enactment of this legislation. The first step is to secure more Senate co-sponsors for S. 1698.
